Entertaiment is a vast category of activities that can be consumed on various scales, from an individual selecting a private entertainment from the ever-increasing library of pre-recorded products; to a large public gathering with food, music and dance. What is entertaining for one group or person may not be to another, and entertainment can have a serious purpose as well, as in ceremony, celebration, religious festival or satire for instance.
Oliver and Barstsch (2010) suggest that entertainment can be defined objectively as an activity that combines communication from text to audience with external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience to exist and takes place in a passive form.
