Entertaiment means agreeable occupation for the mind, diversion, or amusement. It is a form of recreation and can be in the form of playing games, sports, arts, visiting amusement parks, attending concerts or movies, solving crossword puzzles or even watching television. It can provide a distraction from stressful or negative aspects of life, promote self-confidence and social interaction and can help develop communication skills. It can be as simple as a clown at a birthday party or as complex as a stadium rock concert. It can also be used as a tool for corporate communication. This definition was written in Fall 2011.
The word Entertaiment is derived from the Medieval Latin intertenere, which means to hold inside. It is related to the Indo-European root ten, which means “stretch.” The word has a seemingly unlimited potential for creative remix in different media and has shown an ability to survive over time.
